Dark Brown Skirting Leather $90.00

Product Description

Vegetable tanned leather measuring 13-15 oz or 5.2 - 6mm thick. These argentinian hides average around 21 square feet, thus, not as big as their american counterparts. Anyways, the lower price and equal tanning quality provide a higher value per dollar.

The 1st or first quality side is carefully chosen firstly at the raw material stage and later its re-classified once the product is ready to ship. In this way we ensure ourselves of the quality of the product and that only the best sides are available for our customers.

The 2nd or second quality side gets the best bang for your buck and is great for customers who use smaller cuts.

The flesh side is buffed

The memory of our leather for tooling purposes has been something that customers have really valued over these years.

The pit tanning used has been developed at the tannery over 20 years ago and has since been praised in the saddle making industry for achieving the quality of north american tanneries.

These hides are chosen from the south of Argentina where the weather is colder and the animals achieve this thickness throughout their lives.

Technical Specifications

About this cut

Our leather is selected from the thickest and strongest parts of the hide, heavily favored by saddlers making skirts and riggings for working saddles. You can expect durability and excellent structure.

Thickness guide

13-15 oz: Extra heavy. Recommended for saddle skirts, riggings, and stress points.

9-10 oz: Medium/Heavy. Recommended for heavy saddlebags, chaps tops, and tooled accessories.

Conditioning & care

Our pit-tanned leather takes oil beautifully. We recommend 100% pure Neatsfoot oil or Saddle Soap for finishing and maintaining flexibility throughout the life of your craft.

Have questions?

Common questions about this leather

1st grade hides are the cleanest cuts with minimal natural markings — ideal for tooled show saddles or presentation pieces. 2nd grade hides have more natural character (brands, scars) but the same structural strength, making them perfect for working saddles at a better value.

For saddle skirts we recommend 13–14oz (Extra Heavy) or 14oz+ skirting leather. The extra weight gives your skirts the rigidity and longevity that working saddles demand. For lighter applications like saddlebags or tooled accessories, 9–10oz is a great choice.

What saddle makers say

5.0 — Verified buyers
Randy K.'s work

Been making saddles 22 years. This leather tools as clean as anything out there — every cut holds crisp. Showed up in two days from Texas which honestly surprised me.

Sarah M.'s work

Ordered three times now and every hide has been exactly what was described. Manuel picked up the phone when I had a question about thickness — not something you get from most suppliers.

Dave T.'s work

Got 4 sides for a ranch saddle build. All came graded just like the site said, no surprises. Ordered on a Tuesday mornin and they were here Thursday — can't ask for much more than that.
